Rail Merchants International,
a specialized division of Anderson Steel Flange Railroad Equipment
Company, is located on the site of the former Rock Island Railroad
freight yard (the Golden State route) in Fairfield, Iowa. While
that railroad is no longer in existence, the firm has a siding
connected to the old CB&Q East/West mainline, fifty miles
west of Burlington, Iowa and the Mississippi River.
Our office and yard are about a four to five hour drive from
Chicago, Kansas City, St. Louis, or Omaha, and a 90-minute drive
from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which is our closest regional airport.
Fairfield has a municipal airport with a 4,000 foot runway to
accommodate private planes and corporate jets.
